So by now you have heard me calling in saying i'm out.... here's why:
#1. My Achilles are killing me feels like sand paper in there even after a day of rest....
#2. My butt maybe due to starting with 32c tires but its been a long time seance i've had saddle sores and my ass is still on fire
#3. outa cash
#4. Lack of motivation ever seance del norte.
#5. so hard to keep focus when your out by your self.....
#6. I belive I had a sezuire in south park and was dealing with a lowgrade migrine the last 120 milesi rode
I think I'm done with the divide route for good... 4 times out there... I'll leave it for those that are tougher, stronger then I...
Up at my folks place, so after a few more days rest i'll be cutting wood, helping my uncle build stuff, and maybe doing a bit of cooking.....

Dave, you are amazing. No need to justify why you are out.
Riding in steamboat sounds fun (when you are recovered, of course)!

You are as stuff as anyone. Not many have even tried to do that route 4 time, let alone made it as far as you have each time.
Well done.
Awesome go there man! Sounds like you really worked it this year. At least you tried, that's a lot more than can be said of most of us.
Sad to see you bow out of the TD but you have some good reasons...remember rule No1: Dave don't hurt Dave :)
Out of 6 billion people you are one of a handful ever to turn up repeatedly to try this beast. You can be damn proud of that.
Alex
You tried it 4 times on a FIXIE, that alone takes balls in my book. I was rooting for ya on your solo ride but totally understand, now I can focus on cheering on Joe Meiser & Jill Homer as well as the Petervary's, although I think they have it nearly nailed down at this point.
It's funny that the first time I was ever turned onto this blog was the first time you tried it & got your Cross-Check ripped off in the woods, been here checking out your adventures ever since, hope there's many more for you in the future, even if they're closer to home!
Good job Dave!! Enjoy the rest and see you soon!
Ed
Are you kidding, you are the biggest bad ass I know!! Kudos for making it so far :) Steve and I are always thinking of you! Give us a shout after you get rested.
June
You could slow down and ride with me. You past me while I was in Kremmling. I'll be in Steamboat until Thursday.

Dave, Dave Dave, You are an inspiration man. (In a crazy fun sort of way of course.)
When my wife told me you had pulled it was a real blow to my blue dot fixation. Right now you most likely have the ‘ride’ still running around in your head. Hope you can relax some, chill out a bit and while doing that enjoy & savor your amazing Divide efforts. Hope to see you out on the trail sometime this yr.
Dave, sorry it tdidn't go as you'd hoped but what you did accomplish is still pretty amazing. Be proud!
Patti and I both enjoyed our time together. I hope I (we) didn't hurt your motivation? Come by anytime.
Gary- You and Patty are part of the reason I made it as far as I did..
Big Thanks!
I'll have to go ride some trail with you soon!
YOu totally went out there and pushed harder and farther than any of your attempts yet --- you are HUGELY successful, DAVE -- on all levels and in all manners. I'm so proud of you ... and you should be super proud of yourself.
Ed and I are sending our love! Perhaps we'll all meet up and ride with GarY and PattI!!!!
HUGE HUGS TO YOUUUUUU!!!!!

Great job, Dave! Most of us can't comprehend even trying it, well, I know I can't.
Dave, whatever you do, don't be hard on yourself. You accomplished a truly amazing thing -- pushing and extending your limits, that's why most of us ride. The "finish line" is just an end to one experience.
Awesome ride man!
Hell of a ride Dave, you've got a beer comin' from me next time we cross paths!
Such a great endeavor! Proud of you Dave!
Dave, I had never heard of fixed gear bikes until I met you the day you moved my refrigerator on a dolly like it wasn't even there. It has been three years, but I just put in an order at the lbs for a cross-check and a fix/fix wheel. Maybe I'll hate it, maybe I'll love it, but I'm trying it because of you.
I'd been watching your spot and was bummed when you were in Buena Vista as I was leaving Denver for San Diego. It would have been great to see you on the day I left as I saw you on the day I arrived. I know we'll meet again, hopefully over whiskey again.
I think you have a great attitude on what happened out there. You put what you had out there and like someone said above, that's more than 99% of the others do. You are a 1%'er.
